The Qatar Poetry Center, "Diwan Al Arab", affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Sports, was inaugurated in 20th of March 2017 by the Minister of Culture and Sport Mr. Salah Bin Ghanim Al Ali at the Museum of Islamic Art. The inauguration of the Diwan Al Arab Center coincides with World Poetry Day, with presence of a large crowd of Qatari poets and Gulf Arab countries' poets. The Ministry of Culture and Sport believes in the role of poetry in promoting the society and achieving the vision of the ministry, which is "a conscious society with an authentic feeling and a healthy body". This center was launched to spread the culture of poetry and create the ideal environment for poets and to take the hands of young Qatari talents through sponsoring, supporting and organizing workshops, courses and events. To create a generation of creative poets in the State and contribute to raising the intellectual and literary level of the Qatari poets while adopting poetic projects that promote the taste of society, preserve its cultural identity and promote the literary heritage and rooting it.
